A Great Day for Hockey
Hannah & Marcus attended their first NHL game on New Year’s Day, 2009. That was pretty cool. In the morning, we decided to go to TD Banknorth Garden to see if we could get a glimpse of the players. And our great day for hockey began. Scott Waugh (the trainer for the Boston Bruins) was letting his friends out of the Bruins morning skate, so I asked if we could go in……sure enough…..the Penguins were having their game-day skate. Incredible experience. Yet there’s more. The players were signing autographs as they left the ice, so the kids got signatures from Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis, Maxime Talbot, Phillippe Boucher, and more (I’ll complete the list when I check their jerseys). Most of the people there (maybe 30 or so) left once Sidney Crosby, Orpik and Whitney left the ice….but we stayed.
Mike Yeo had Tyler Kennedy get the remaining 5 kids some practice pucks. Marc-Andre Fleury gave Marcus his stick from practice. Finally, as Hal Gill was trying to get everyone on the bus, Sidney Crosby exited the press conference, saw the five kids, and instead of rushing onto the bus, came back and signed all their jerseys and memorabilia. Check out the video of Sidney Crosby signing Hannah and Marcus’ jerseys.
